Bracket Attack Report

It was a day of high hopes, hard work and great results. A near-perfect weather at WSID allowed us to finally test all the changes we have implemented after Winter Nationals.
“It’s a learning experience,” said Rocky, “we’re learning something every time we take the car to a track. Unfortunately, over the last 6 months most of the events have been rained out, which put us back quite a bit.”
“We have made a host of changes and improvements to the car over the last few months, it was time to put them to the test.”
The “6” looked strong on its first run, launching hard but severe tyre shake and lack of traction forced Rocky to back off.
Back in the pits, the crew worked hard to rectify the problem by making a host of adjustments. The second run looked promising.
The second run was a textbook pass: good, powerful launch and a solid, straight line all the way to the quarter mile mark. We all knew it was a quick pass, but when the 6.899 time was displayed the entire crew jumped and clapped, their celebration cut short by a cloud of dust appearing at the end of the track.
“I knew something was wrong,” recalls Rocky, “it felt like either one of both chutes didn’t deploy. I was hard on the brakes but didn’t want to risk putting the car sideways. So off into the sand trap we went..”
Luckily the damage was only superficial, the fibre nose piece copping most of it. After a close inspection it was revealed that one of the parachutes indeed failed to deploy properly.
“It’s a pity we couldn’t get more passes on the day” says Rocky. “I’m confident we could have brought the time down even further, but I guess that’s racing.”
“It’s a definite step forward. What this pass proved to us, is that we’re going in the right direction, and that all the changes we’ve made to the car are now beginning to pay dividents. The car feels strong and stable. I feel we’ll start seeing the times come down now.”
