2013 AUSTRALIAN NATIONALS - SYDNEY DRAGWAY

As we rolled into the Sydney Dragway pit area on the Friday for qualifying for the 2013 Australian Nationals the whole Pac Performance team breathed a sigh of relief; after all that effort, we'd made it! After four straight days and nights of working on the car to repair the damage from the previous weeks Full Throttle Friday accident, the car was at the track and ready to rumble!

Before the car would see the strip though, chassis guru Craig Burns would assist the crew with scaling up the car, checking the suspension and performing a wheel alignment to ensure everything was good to go and the car would run straight and true.

With the car given the all-clear we rolled out for our first qualifying pass in the afternoon. As with any first pass after an accident or making significant changes to the cars setup we would use this as a 'shake-down' pass, making sure everything works as it should.

After one of Georges signature burnouts the car was staged and the lights dropped, the Mazda6 SP blasted out of the hole for a solid 1.01 sixty-foot, going on to run an easy 6.65@205, tyre shaking through second gear.

Although happy with the pass, heading back to the pits the team noticed a possible issue with the front suspension and rather than trying to rectify the issue at the track the decision was made to skip the final qualifier and head back to the workshop to get the car sorted for Saturdays first round of competition.

Returning to Sydney Dragway on Saturday morning with the suspension issues sorted the team was feeling very positive about the day ahead.

Alongside our own merch stand at our pit area the team from Garrett set up a stand to promote their range including the hugely popular GTX units for both street and race applications.

The first round of eliminations saw the Mazda6 SP line up against The Rigoli 4-cylinder Eclipse. With a delayed index tree we would be doing the chasing on this run, being the quicker car of the pairing, however just as we were coming home hard at half track disaster struck with a cracked engine front plate spewing oil everywhere, effectively ending the race and the event for us.

Thankfully the carbon fibre under trays contained the spill, stopped things from getting too ugly and allowed George to coast through the deep-end.

In the end while things may have not gone exactly to plan for the team on the weekend we were quite happy to have made it to the event in the first place and are as always very glad to have such an awesome team and family that can make these things happen. We will now be re grouping and rebuilding in preparation for some testing before we venture off to Adelaide for the 4, 6, Rotary & Turbo Nationals on the 23rd of November
