2013 Fuchs Winternationals Day 1 Wrap Up

It’s always good to start off the day on high and set the tone and that’s what we did today. Our first qualifier pass for the day was a solid 6.537@211 with a blistering .988 sixty-foot. Although the launch and ET were good the pass wasn’t perfect with the car pulling to the right just after the sixty forcing George to back off the throttle and correct the car before getting back on through to the 1000-foot where he backed off once again, rolling through the traps at zero throttle.

After that pass the crew proceeded to make some adjustments to the rear end to try and correct the car and stop it from pulling to the right. These small adjustments looked to have had a positive effect however the clutch let us down this time.

Jumping out of the hole for a slower but still impressive 1.034 sixty-foot the car stayed much straighter but George drove through the clutch and buttoned-off very early for a 6.540@196.

Happy with how the rear end tuning was progressing a few more small tweaks were made, more clutch was added and we headed back out again. Unfortunately we didn’t get it right with the clutch on this pass and after a strong burnout by George the car drove off the line for a slower 1.051 sixty-foot, again driving hard though the clutch throughout the entire pass. Yet through all this we still came through with a new PB of 6.516@210, once again shutting off early.

Damien McKern’s day unfortunately wasn’t as successful. His second qualifying pass was aborted short of the sixty due to excessive wheel spin off the mark.

Although somewhat disheartening Damien and his crew certainly won’t let it hold them back and we’re sure they will come out, guns blazing tomorrow…

Overall the day for us was very successful in the Mazda6 SP. We ran good times, made some positive changes along the way and we will be going into day 2 with confidence, keen to make things happen… Stay tuned.
