2014 SYDNEY JAMBOREE WRAP-UP

Once again Jamboree proved itself as this countries premiere Sport Compact drag racing event with the 2014 Sydney leg playing host to a plethora of amazing cars both on and off the track and solid spectator number as well.

With the sun shining down through bright blue skys the Sydney Dragways new shade sails were a god-send for the excited spectators that filled the grand stands throughout the day. On top of that there was always an abundance of crew members & other racers watching eagerly from the staging areas as well, especially when the big Mazda6 SP fired up...

Consistency is key to wining races and that's exactly what the guys were working on with the Mazda6 SP at the Sydney Jamboree. With the car dialed down on the day to help get it down the track cleanly & drama-fee in the mid day heat George steered the beast to two easy 6-sixties in qualifying.

The plan was then to turn her up a bit moving into eliminations but after a skatey 6.70 first round win against Mark Jacobson's GTR the skys opened up and unleashed a drenching on Sydney Dragway and we decided to call it a day...

Andrew 'The Dentist' Maratos brought out his angry 13B-powered RX3, fixated on chasing that Aussie first, six-second pass.

Slightly off-pace compared to his usual flat-seven second performances Andrew still put down three solid passes in qualifying, each pass quicker than the previous with his best for the day being a 7.29@186. Andrew was paired up in the staging lanes to run the Jett Racing 1200 Ute in the first round of eliminations but then the heavens opened up and drenched the track...

Dom Perri was eager to hit the track at Sydney Jamboree with his coupe 'GODRX2' fresh off the Pac Performance dyno with some new-found power, hunting for that 8-second time slip...Starting off easy to get a feel for the track Dom nailed a solid 9.33@144 off the trailer before Rocky turned things up a bit for the next pass. Unfortunately the extra oomph saw the car get very skatey mid track.

Already on edge trying to get the power down through those skinny tyres, the extra power proved a bit too much on the second run. Dom only managed to just squeeze in his last qualifying pass before the bad weather hit which was a much-improved 9.16@147, equaling the cars best mph through the traps...

Hady El-Bache and his crew were all smiles on race day, their RX3 coupe always a solid performer on the track.

The more seat time Hady gets the more consistent the car is becoming and that was seen at Sydney Jamboree with the car running consistent wheels-up mid to low nines through qualifying with a best of 9.33@145 which is also happens to be a new PB for Hady.

With a fresh bridgeport combo under the hood, Andrew Toet was keen to cut some laps of the Sydney Dragway strip... Without pushing the new setup in the heat Andrew still cruised along for three easy mid nines with a best of 9.37@143 for the day; the street car doing it with ease!

One car that is anything but easy to get down the track smoothly is the 20B RX2 of Damien McKern. After a hole in the wastegate line saw the car miss its first qualifier Damien and his crew came back out for their second pass ready to rumble and although the car bogged off the line it then proceeded to blaze the tyres through the 60-foot and go on to record a blistering 183.42mph through the traps which we believe is a new speed record for the ST289 class. INSANE!

Another street car-come weekend racer, Eric Wolf's RX3 sedan is another nine-second performer although a few race day gremlins saw the car unable to perform at its best.

As you can see in the pic above though it didn't dampen Eric's spirits though and a 10-flat at 133mph best run for the day is certainly nothing to be ashamed about!

The day didn't quite go to plan for Grant Henderson and his crew, the car suffering some issues early on. Grant did still steer the small-tyred beast to a lazy 8.7@130, buttoning off early and rolling through the traps.

Another racer that suffered some race day dramas was Tony Pape and his 13BT 808. After an impressive burnout the diff gears decided they'd had enough come launch time and that was it for Tony... We'll no doubt see him back on the track soon though.

Last but certainly not least, the Gibbos Racing 1000 ute 'YAMUMA' was putting on a mad burnout show for the crowd, the cars new Jatco setup getting a workout. It performed very well too, running a PB 9.6@130 off the trailer.

On top of the on-track action there was plenty to see and do in the pits as well. The guys from Garrett were on hand to show of their range of GTX turbochargers and answer any questions and queries people may have had.

The huge range of turbochargers on display to see and touch, ranging from direct swap small frame items to massive race-spec huffers they were pure eye-candy for most enthusiasts, with some of them not being able to resist the temptation and placing their orders right there and then!

Pac Performance was represented in the show side of things as well by Brandan Buxton's clean RX3 sedan which happened to pick up the 'Best Mazda' trophy for his efforts... Now it's time to race it Bux!!

Jamboree is not just for the big kids either, the little ones also get a real kick out of the event; being able to get up close and personal with the race cars and drivers...

While things were moving along nicely in the early afternoon that all changed real quick when the drag strip turned into a river rapid thanks to a huge down-pour and crazy winds...Even though the rain subsided and it looked to be clearing up the team decided that it was time to call it a day rather than risking it back on the track.

Big thanks to Cackling Pipes for the on-track photos...

Next stop for the Pac Performance crew....Powercruise Sydney - 27-30 March.
