BRISBANE JAMBOREE 2013 WRAP UP

Once again, Pac Performance headed north for the annual Brisbane Jamboree, hoping for sunshine, big burnouts and quick ETs and although things got off to a rocky start, the weekend certainly ended on a high for the team.

Last time we raced the Pac Performance Mazda6 SP at Willowbank Raceway was the Winternationals, the event where we took back the world record for the quickest and fastest rotary-powered vehicle and so heading north once again to the sunshine state, we were keen on reaffirming that number one spot in front of a crowd of passionate rotary fans.

Joining us in the sun & tyre smoke was Damien McKern in his angry 20B RX2 GRUMP2 and budding young talent, Simon Sadek in his recently-revamped 13B RX3.

As we mentioned before, day one of the Brisbane Jamboree started off less than ideal, with the car having some dramas on our first qualifier, this saw us sit out for the second round.

Once sorted we returned to the black top for our second pass (third qualifier), keen on getting to business, but unfortunately, another problem popped its ugly head up... Moving into stage for the run, George banged the 2-step and shot down the track for a solid 6.769@213, with a sluggish and uncharacteristic 1.35 sixty-foot. After looking at the data from the run it seemed that something was tripping the staging beams early before George dropped the clutch...

This was to happen  another two times as we moved into the competition rounds on day two, with the car red lighting twice on its next two consecutive passes. After wrecking our brains trying to figure out what could be causing the issue, we raised the front of the car up slightly, re-check our measurements at scrutineering before our first pass of the day but to no avail... At this time we narrowed it down to one last possibility, that being that the 2-step pulses from the exhaust were setting the timers off...

After a quick chat with track officials it was discovered that the staging beams had been set to a mode more sensitive than usual and so allowing the exhaust pulses to set them off. The track officials agreed to turn the sensitivity down and see if it would fix our problem as we went out for our last pass.

Once George had laid down one of his signature burnouts the crew stages the car and we all crossed our fingers. The lights dropped and the Mazda6 SP jumped out of the hole for a much-improved 1.039 sixty-foot and flew through the traps for a new PB and world record 6.455@216.34mph. This ET would also end up being the fastest of the meet in the Factory Xtreme class; another great accomplishment for the team.

You can check out the pass in HD here -

Although we had not made it to the Factory Xtreme finals all of our hard work over the past week had paid off; from repairing the damage caused by the tyre blow-out just 48 hours before the event, to sorting out the on-track dramas on race day, we once again came out on top!

Simon Sadek also made the long trek up from Sydney to Brisbane for the event with his revamped RX3 two-door, supported by his crew, led by his father; Sam 'The Godfather' Sadek.

Fresh from a debut in the eight-twenties a few weeks ago at his local track, Sydney Dragway, Simon was set on improving on his PB.

However even though his burnout and launch performances were of top grade, the ET was just not there as a mixed result of the high temps and a little bit of race day nerves.

As always though, in true Sadek family style, Simon put on a good show, the crowd loving the big burnouts and car's new look.

Speaking of big burnouts, Damien McKern's 20B RX2 is certainly well equipped to pull such stunts and once again Damien didn't fail to impress in that regard.

The GRUMP2 RX2 has been having some traction problems of late, Damien struggling to get the power down cleanly. For his first pass of the meet boost levels were lowered off the line and the car ran a lazy 8.71@178, leaving the line on just five psi.

The next pass the wick was turned up slightly however the car bogged hard on the line. Not one to waste a pass though, Damien buried his foot and the car tripped the finish beams at 175mph; showing the grunt this Pac-prepped 20B is producing.

Unfortunately for the McKern crew things didn't get much better from there with the Lenco box deciding it has had enough mid way though the massive burnout you see below....

After the record pass in the Mazda6 SP supporters, racers and fans alike made their way over to our pit area, congratulating the team on the latest achievement and there was no shortage of media including the Rotorg33k crew wanting to chat with George about the record pass.

Even the youngsters, the next generation of PACsters were showing their support on the day...

Our new merchandise range including the extremely popular 'Way of Life' & 'Feel the Power' T-shirts went on sale at the Brisbane Jamboree and proved to be a hit with the rotor fans.

Overall while there was a lot of ups and downs for us, our Jamboree experience this year will be one to remember and like the Rotorg33k, we give the Jamboree two thumbs up!

Big thanks to Blacktrack Photography for helping out with the on-track photos.
