LUSNUP S14 TEARS IT UP ON THE PAC PERFORMANCE DYNO

After having his fair share of fun with a solid 430rwhp on tap thanks to a Garrett GTX3076R, George Mouza, owner of this tidy S14 streeter decided it was time to step things up.

Wanting to retain drivability and response we recommended George go with a larger GTX3582R, a turbo we selected to help him reach his goal of 600rwhp... Matched with one of the new Garrett V-Band inlet .84 A/R exhaust housings this turbocharger would give the stout SR20 the extra curry to hit George's goal and still give the car plenty of scope for even more power later on down the track.

With all the extra flow expected from the turbo upgrade, the factory Nissan SR20DET throttle body was deemed to be a major restriction. Taking its place would be a new Hypertune Billet 70mm item but due to the substantial increase in size, it was necessary to port the intake manifold to suit which is exactly what Jason is doing in the photo below.

Bolted up in place and plumbed in with some Turbosmart silicon piping it looks the goods and allowed the engine to breath much better and take in all the goodness the new GTX3582R would feed it.

At the same time the turbo intake was also modified to suit the new GTX3582R. A custom four inch alloy intake was fabricated for the job, sourcing fresh air from the inner guard area via one of our High Flow Shielded Air Filters.

As you will see in the video clip below, when first strapped onto the dyno traction was a big issue on the rollers with the tyres just wanting to break loose every time the power came on. Even with a bit of extra ballast in the rear end it couldn't be contained.

Not happy with leaving it at that, after a quick chat with Craig from Mainline Dyno Dynamics it was found that improvement could be had with the way the car was being strapped down. Being an IRS rear end, something we haven't dealt a lot with on the new roller dyno (Have mainly used the hub dyno previously) but Craig was kind enough to come out and give us some pointers that certainly made a big impact. As adjustments were made to the strapping on the car the results got better and better, going from 560hp to 621hp just by making a few small changes to the way the car was strapped down. Info that would not have been attained if it wasn't for the great after sales service from the guys at Mainline!

After sorting everything out Rocky loaded her up for one last run and on the last pull the car laid down an impressive 628rwhp, all thanks to the new Garrett GTX3582R, Hypertune throttle body, intake, air filter and a new tune with some extra boost. That's right, 600+hp through our street legal air filter!!

An awesome achievement from a small capacity engine, this little S14 has certainly got us all hyped up at the workshop and we're pumped to be able to deliver the good news to George. There's no doubt George is going to have a ball with his new found power and for those of you who happen to line up against this unassuming blue Nissan on the track...Well you better be packing some heat otherwise you may as well loosen up and prepare yourself for what's coming...
