MAZILA IS APRIL'S 'CAR OF THE MONTH'

Once considered an “ugly duckling” by early Mazda enthusiasts, the Series 4 Capella/RX-2 often took a back seat to more popular models like the RX3, R100, and earlier-series RX2s. However, Fadi and Billy’s exceptional example proves that, with the right vision and a capable team to execute it, even the so-called ugly duckling can become a true showstopper.

What began as Billy’s long-held dream of owning a Pac-built Mazda became a reality when the brothers joined forces. Sourcing a suitable shell and making the call to Pac Performance was all it took to set the project in motion. From there, some of the most respected names in the industry worked their magic to deliver what we believe is one of the finest Series 4 Capellas to hit the streets.

From every angle, this car exudes class. Not overdone, not in your face—it’s the automotive equivalent of a finely tailored Armani suit on wheels.

The custom platinum green exterior, crafted by Shalala Smash Repairs, sets the tone for this stylish build—perfectly complementing the car’s lines while pairing seamlessly with the satin plastics and chrome accents.

This is further elevated by the exceptional work of the team at Brent Parker Motor Trimming, who delivered a fully bespoke interior. Highlights include premium leather-trimmed Recaro Sportster CS front seats, a custom-moulded rear, one-off hand-built door trims and parcel tray, and a billet steering wheel. A host of subtle finishing touches—such as custom scratch pads, seat embossing—bring the entire package together with precision and refinement. Keen eyes will also notice the AC unit integrated seamlessly into the factory dash.

The owners admit that choosing the colour combination was one of the most challenging decisions of the build. However, placing their trust in experienced professionals paid off, resulting in a finish that not only exceeded expectations but perfectly captured the vision they had set out to achieve.

Beneath the surface of this rolling masterpiece lies pure Pac Performance engineering. At its heart is a Billet By Pac 13B engine, paired with a Garrett G42 turbocharger, a Turblown intake system, and a host of Turbosmart components, among other premium hardware. Power from the aggressive 13B is delivered to the rear wheels via a paddle-shifted C4 transmission, feeding into a heavy-duty 9-inch rear end equipped with fully adjustable suspension and Wilwood four-piston brakes at all four corners.

Fuel is supplied by a trio of Walbro pumps, delivering a consistent flow of E85 from one of our high-capacity in-boot fuel tanks. The system is plumbed front to rear using high-quality Speedflow 200 Series hose and 520 Series press fittings. Ignition is handled by a custom Pac-spec M&W ignition system, while a MoTeC M130 engine management system with a rotary dial keypad oversees the entire setup. All critical data is relayed to the driver via a C1212 display.

While the car has been built with street cruising in mind, the RC Component billet beadlock wheels and sticky radial tyres at the rear hint at its true potential. The brothers have every intention of enjoying this car on the track as well, where it’s expected to deliver strong performance figures and make a serious impression in roll racing when the time comes.
