PAC PERFORMANCE @ MELBOURNE JAMBOREE 24-10-15

Saturday the 24th of October saw the running of the inaugural Jamboree in Melbourne, an event that brings the best of the best in Australian Sport compact racing together to battle it out. This being the first Jamboree event at the newly re-surfaced Calder Park track saw over 110 racer's looking to put on a show for the crowd and re-ignite the drag racing scene in Victoria.
The team arrived early on Friday morning to get some testing in ahead of the following days racing. In attendance was Jay Sadek in his RX4 Sedan, Murat Gulasi in his 'MYTIME' RX3 Sedan, Adam Warwar with his 'ALLOUT' RX3 Sedan, Steven Barnett and his Pro Compact RX3 Coupe and of course our Mazda 6 SP.
On race day Luke Philps joined the ranks in his 'STUTTA' R100 along with Grant Henderson and his RX3 Coupe, unfortunately Adam and Murat had other commitments and we're unable to compete on the day.

During testing on Friday Adam Warwar was looking to better his previous pb of 9.03 and run an 8 second ET, he came very close to doing this with a very impressive 9.100 @147.

Murat was on a mission to move up the #pacstreetkings leader board, with his first pass of 9.402 @144 which moved him up to 4th place and then he backed it up with a 9.314 @145 placing him now in 3rd place on the leader board right behind his good friend Adam.

After a good day of testing Jay Sadek was eager to make an impact in the Modified Compact class with his RX4 Sedan, Jay ran consistent 9.5 second passes thorughout the day, which saw him reach the semi finals, but unfortunately lost and was unable to progress any further. Great job Jay!

Luke Philps was also looking for a good showing in ST289, in his beautifully presented 'STUTTA' R100 but unfortunately luck wasn't on his side with mechanical gremlins plaguing him throughout the day. Luke's best pass of the day was 9.443 @109.

The RX3 coupe of Grant Henderson @ ESP Racing also had minor issues, but still managed a respectable 8.561 @163 on his second pass before the team decided to call it a day.

A car that is making a lot of noise lately is the RX3 coupe of Steven Barnett in his quest to become Australia's first 6-second 13B.  After recently running a 7.08 at Sydney Dragway, the team put everything they had in testing on  Friday,  but halfway through the day a rear suspension component broke ending his day. The team was able to build a replacement part overnight which allowed Steve to race the next day.  Lucky they did, as this was Steve's day with his second qualifying pass being a blistering 7.042 @191, coming away with a new PB and top qualifier Trophy.  Congratulations Steve, now stop smiling!!!

With our Mazda 6 SP making a return to the Calder Park track after more than 4 years we were excited to see how good the newly refurbished track would be. The first pass saw George run a leisurely 6.50 @213. George stated "This is the best track I have ever run on!"  The 3rd pass of the day saw the Mazda 6 leave the line harder than it ever had before but at half track the car felt a bit loose so George backed off to a 6.38 @193. With the data from the last pass the boys were excited to get out again and see just how fast they could go, this run saw us reset the Australian Fastest Rotary Record, we already owned, with a pass of 6.263 @ 223!!  Reclaiming a spot on the Worlds Fastest Sports Compact leaderboard placing us now in 10th position.

After a very successful day testing the team were hyped for race day, while setting up for the day's racing we received word from the officials that we would now be only racing to the 1000 ft mark due to there not being enough safety barriers at the end of the track for cars reaching 200+ mph. Knowing that our World record attempt could not happen on the day the team were still keen to put on a show for the fans who came along to the event and we did just that taking out top qualifier honors with a 5.498 in the 1000 ft and then clipping the wall a few runs later due to our parachute ripping causing some minor panel damage. With a never die attitude we quickly replaced the chutes and prepared for the Factory Xtreme final against the Gas Motorsports Scion of Nathan Hagensen where we came away with the first place Trophy.

The Melbourne Jamboree was certainly an event not to be missed for any fan of Sport Compact drag racing and we are sure it will grow in popularity in years to come. We already can't wait to travel down for the next running this awesome event.

We would like to thank Ray Box, Colin Wiltshire and the Jamboree team for putting on such an amazing event in Melbourne. A big thanks also goes out to the crew at Calder Park Raceway for putting on a killer track that helped enable us to run our record pass.
Most importantly we would like to thank our amazing sponsor's Turbo by Garrett, Microtech, Turbosmart, Mainline Dynalog Dynamometers, Custom Bodyworks and Castrol, without you we would not be where we are today.
We would also like to thank all the PACsters that came along to show their support as well as all of our fan's all over the world that continue to follow us through thick and thin. Our next goal now is to climb even higher up the World's Fastest Sports Compact leaderboard, watch this space!
