PRESS RELEASE - STEVEN BARNETT MOVES ON

***PRESS RELEASE***

It is with great sadness to announce that Steven Barnett will no longer be racing under the Pac Performance banner.

After a 23 year partnership, Steve has decided to part ways with Pac Performance due to a difference in opinion on technical aspects of Steve’s racing program. Barnett has been part of the Pac family since he first came to our workshop back in 1996 with his then owned RX3 sedan ‘SIRRX3’ a car which he ran consistent low 10 second passes as a young Rotor head.

His next project was an orange RX3 coupe which received a full ground up rebuild for street and strip duties. The ‘RIP08Z’ coupe went on to run a best of an 8.5 @161 before he decided to step things up to a dedicated ¾ chassis drag car, a yellow RX3 coupe, which would later become a rotary icon.

During the 2015 Melbourne Jamboree Steve’s coupe became the second quickest 13B in Australia running a new PB of 7.042 @191 and earning top qualifier in the hotly contested Pro Compact field. After top qualifying at the 2016 Sydney Jamboree, Steve went all the way to the finals and took runner up honours.

Later that year, at the Brisbane Jamboree, Steve cemented his place in rotary history and became the first driver in Australia to break into the 6’s with a 13B powered car finishing the event with the best ET of 6.932. He went on to take the Pro Compact, winner’s trophy with a 7.05 with another record for the first 13B to reach a top speed of 200mph in Australia, completing a hat trick of personal achievements and milestones at the same event. Both records are still current to this date. 2017 saw Steve take back to back Jamboree wins taking out the Pro Compact class yet again at the Sydney Jamboree.

2018 saw the debut of his Mazda 6 SP where the team had high hopes in contesting for the 13B World Record and to bring the honours to Australia together. With the break down in discussions, different views and opinions from both parties, unfortunately they have not been able to come to an agreeance to be able to move forward as a united team.

The team would like to thank Steve for being part of the PAC family and for his dedication to the PAC brand the past 20+ years, we would like to wish him all the best for the future and hope that he achieves all his racing goals.
