With the Queensland Jamboree a little over six weeks away, spanners are flying with extra pace at the Pac Performance workshop with the team working hard to prepare not only our own cars for the meet, but also numerous customer cars as well.
At this time of the year it is crucial to get in as much testing as possible to ensure the cars and owner/drivers are prepared as best as possible and so we headed out to
Sydney Dragway last weekend for the Test & Tune meet with a few cars in tow, including the Mazda6 SP.
For the Mazda6 SP this meet was purely for data acquisition with Rocky and George looking to further perfect the front half and mid track part of the runs. As always, driver George was focused on the task at hand.
Big burnouts are never a problem for George or the Mazda6 SP and there was plenty of them.
The car was leaving the line hard on each pass and keeping nice and straight off the line, managing a best sixty-foot of 1.00 for the day. Slightly off-pace from what we’re used to seeing but solid nether the less.
Dom Perri was on track with the GODRX2 Coupe, looking to further improve on his PB.
Starting out with a slightly off-pace 9.74@145 first pass turning the tyres off the line, Dom didn’t lose his high spirits and after a quick check of the data, turned right around for his next run.
This next pass saw GODRX2 launch much harder off the line, the tyres biting hard onto the black top propelling the car to a new PB of 9.116@146.
Dom’s luck then continued to his next pass where the car PB’d once again, this time in the sixty-foot with a 1.32 before continuing on for a 9.17@143 pass.
Speaking of leaving the line hard, Elia Hajjar has been pulling some spectacular wheel stands of late in his 13B Rx3 Coupe.
Unfortunately for Elia and his crew the car was suffering some electrical dramas on the day preventing it from completing a full pass however, the car did
run a PB to the sixty-foot on one pass with a 1.11 off the line; wheels-up.
Tony Pape came out for the day with his 13BT 808 Sedan, looking to get some further practice behind the wheel.
The
Garrett GTX42-fed and C4-backed Bridgeport 13b produces generous amounts of go and should be good for a low nine or high eight once Tony gets the hang of things. His best for the day was a 10.7@128 with a very lazy take-off.
Andrew Maritos, AKA ‘The Dentist’ brought his RX3 Coupe out for some testing on the day and although the 13B sounded sweet in the staging lanes and through the burnout some technical issues came to light which saw the car sidelined early on.
As the sun dipped below the horizon and the cars lined up for their last passes of the day under a crazy purple sky, things got pretty wild on the track. First off the rank for the Pac Performance cars was Dom Perri, lining up against the SDR Datsun 1200.
Despite the dropping temps the track still had plenty of bite however come mid track what looked to be fluid of some sort spewed under the tyres of the SDR car in the right lane which saw it dart sideways across Dom’s path and into the left wall. Luckily Dom was able to avoid the situation and keep out of harm’s way and Steve, the driver of the SDR car stepped out of the car seemingly un- hurt.
The next meet on the calendar is Round 6 of the NSW Championship, again at Sydney Dragway which we're hoping to attend. Mark this date on your planner and be sure to keep a close eye on the
Pac Performance Facebook page for updates.
Big thanks to the crew at
Cackling Pipes for the on-track photos.
