On the 3rd & 4th of December our team attended the Sport Compact Finals at Orlando Speed World Dragway, following on from our successful first event in October. The fastest Sport Compact cars on the planet came to battle it out with over 150 cars entered, representing 9 countries and Orlando Speed World had over 10,000 fans pass through the gates over the weekend ready to check out all of the action.
Just like at our last event in Orlando, the reception we received from the fans and our fellow competitors was overwhelming. George and Rocky were kept busy posing for photos, signing posters and chatting with their fans. Even Pacaroo got in on the action!
For this event we arrived early so we had enough time to test with our Mazda 6 SP making over 20 passes in the few days leading up to the event. Our fastest et over the 3 days was 6.41 @212 which came as a huge relief to the team as we struggled to run a full pass down the quarter mile.
On the first day of the event we went straight into qualifying where we ran a best of 6.31 @218 to put us in 8
th place in a field of 16 cars.
Our first match up in the elimination rounds was against the 'Blue Destiny’ Toyota Celica which qualified just behind us in 9th. We were able to take the win with George getting the hole shot, racing down the track to run a 6.80 @210 to ‘Blue Destiny’s’ 6.79 @218.
Next up was the second round of eliminations and our Mazda 6 SP was paired up again with Damon Chin in his 2JZ powered Toyota Celica. Out of the hole both cars left together but at halftrack, Chin lost traction and George drove around him to take the win with an et of 6.44 @216 to Damon’s 7.06 @191.
Our next match up for round 3 saw us taking on the Zoian Racing, Toyota Camry yet again.
In testing leading up to the event driver, Jesus Melendez ‘Chupa Tech’ steered the 2JZ powered Camry to a new world record of 5.75 @246, so this match up was always going to be a David vs Goliath battle.
Our last match up with the Zoian Racing Camry saw us in an epic staging duel but this time around Melendez bumped straight into stage with George following soon after, as the light dropped George took off with an incredible .002 reaction time to run a 6.34 @219 but it wouldn't be enough as the World’s Fastest import drove around him with a 5.89 @242 to take the win.
The Zoian Racing Camry then went on to take the win in Extreme Compact against the ‘El Jerry’ Toyota FT-1.
We would like to congratulate our good friend's Jimmy, Jesus (Chupa Tech) and the whole Zoian Racing team on a very successful weekend.
Thank you to everyone who attended the event, and to all of the PACsters that tuned in to our live feeds. We really do have the best fans in the world!! We would also like to thank Ozzy & Maria from Orlando Speed World Dragway for making this tour possible along with our sponsors Microtech,
