PAC PERFORMANCE @ WORLD SPORTS COMPACT CHALLENGE 2016

For over 10 years now since stepping up to our pro chassis Mazda MX6, we have been in an ongoing battle with the USA and Puerto Rico for the worlds fastest rotary powered drag car, with the record going backwards and forwards between us. Over this time our cars have evolved as new technology has been made available and we are now recording times which we once thought were impossible. Who would of thought that there would be 3 teams on the cusp of running the worlds first 5 second rotary pass!

With an intense rivalry building over the years, the fans have been wanting to see these teams go head to head and race each other on the same track, the same time, in the same conditions, and after months of talks and preparations it finally happened.  The teams were given the opportunity to do so by Ozzy & Maria from Orlando Speed World Dragway at the 2016 World Sports Compact Challenge (WSCC).

On the 14th, 15th & 16th of October our team attended the WSCC at Orlando Speed World Dragway celebrating our first ever race on US soil.  The event saw some of the toughest Sport Compact competitors come together with over 250 cars entered, representing 9 countries and with Orlando Speed World reaching a capacity crowd each day. This saw over 28,000 fans passing through the gates to what was one of the best events we have attended to date.

The reception we received from not only the fans but also our fellow competitors was overwhelming and humbling. We really felt like Rock stars!

Both Rocky & George had their markers on hand, ready to sign their autographs on flags, posters & shirts.  They were even ready for a quick photo with fans.

With limited testing due to the bad weather, the team were only able to get in a few passes with our fastest pass being a 6.69 @166 after an early let off.

The main attraction for the weekend, was the hignly anticipated match up between Pac Performance and  Loquito Killer with their 20B powered monsters.

Three match races were scheduled but only two were needed with the win going to the Loquito Killer after George unfortunately red lit in both rounds.  Congratulations to Edwin Loquito and the Mechtech race team, we look forward to a rematch!!!

With the match race behind us, the next focus was racing and to compete for the $20,000 prize money put up for the winner of the Extreme Pro Compact class.
First round of eliminations and we were matched against the 2JZ powered Toyota Camry 'Captain Tweet, who rolled into a deep stage and broke the beam early, handing us the first round one win.

Second round of eliminations and the Mazda 6 SP was paired up with Damon Chin in his 2JZ powered Celica. Unfortunately Damon was unable to turn the car around in time and so George ran through to the next round with a bye.

Our next match up for round 3 saw an epic staging duel against the Zoian Racing,Toyota Camry, which had run into the 5 second zone just a few days earlier with a 5.962 @229 in testing. George bumped in first, forcing the camry driver, Jesus Melendez to take both white lights.  The Camry staged but rolled the beam, giving George the win with a red light and a ticket to the finals.

After a massive day of racing we were on the start line for the final at 2.30am in the morning, against the 2JZ powered ‘El Jerry’ Toyota FT-1. With the race running so late into the night and the track conditions deteriorating in the braking area a decision was made by the track staff to run only to the 8th mile to ensure the safety of the drivers.

El Jerry took the win with a 4.026 @187 to our 4.39 @171.  El Jerry was a very deserving winner and one of the most consistent cars all weekend. Congratulations to the team for a great race!!!

Although we didn’t come away with the win we had an amazing weekend rubbing shoulders with our fans and some of the fastest Sports Compact racers on the planet.  We were very proud to showcase what Australia has to offer and look forward to returning with a better understanding of the track and to pick up where we have left off.

Thank you to everyone who attended  and to all of the PACsters that tuned in to our live feeds. We have the best fans in the world!!  We would also like to thank Ozzy & Maria from Orlando Speed World Dragway for making this tour possible along with our sponsors Microtech, TurbosmartMainline Dyno'sGarrett and Custom Body Works, without your support we would not be able to compete with the best in the world..

Last but not least we would like to thank our Pit Crew and Support Team, and our Aussie contingent who flew all the way over to lend us a hand. We were so grateful for all of your help over the weekend, you were all amazing!!

We now look forward to our next event which will be the World Sports Compact Finals to be held on the 3rd and 4th of December also at Orlando Speed World Dragway. See you there!!
