All Hail the New King!
Some records simply raise the bar. Others rewrite the history books. Leon's PAC Performance-built Mazda RX3 Coupe has done exactly that, cementing its place in rotary history with an astonishing 7.720-second pass at 182.6 mph, officially becoming the world's quickest street-driven rotary and earning Leon the title of PAC Street King.
A record like this isn't nearly as impressive if it can't be backed up. To solidify his PB Leon went back out and ran a 7.76@181, 7.72 @182, 7.82 @181 and a 7.78@183 all on the same night.
For anyone familiar with the Melbourne car scene, Leon and his RX3 need little introduction. A regular at car shows, cruises and automotive events across Victoria, Leon has always believed that cars are built to be driven and enjoyed. His immaculate RX3 is as comfortable parked among Australia's finest show cars as it is launching down the quarter mile, making it one of the most recognised and respected street-driven rotaries in the country.
Behind every record-breaking car is countless hours of planning, development and relentless attention to detail. Leon's vision was to build the ultimate street-driven rotary, one that could dominate at the drag strip without sacrificing the ability to hit the streets and enjoy everything that comes with owning an iconic 20B RX3. Working closely with the team at PAC Performance, that vision has evolved into one of the most formidable rotary combinations ever assembled.
Power comes from a meticulously engineered PAC Performance-built 20B rotary engine, breathing through the latest Turblown billet 20B intake manifold force-fed by a massive Garrett G-Series turbocharger and fueled by our Pac Spec Fuel tank with single 7 Gallon pump. Managing every aspect of the engine is a MoTeC M150 ECU package, delivering the precision and reliability required from a combination capable of producing world-class performance. Backing the engine is the proven strength of a Turbo 400 transmission and Pac Performance built 9 inch differential, ensuring every ounce of power is transferred efficiently to the track.
The chassis has been built with the same no compromise philosophy. Wilwood four-piston brakes front and rear provide the stopping power needed for a car capable of exceeding 180 mph, while lightweight RC Components wheels complete the package with a timeless race-inspired look that perfectly suits the RX3's classic lines.
While this RX3’s specs are impressive, it's what Leon does with the car that truly sets it apart. This isn't a purpose-built race car that only sees daylight on race weekends. It's a genuine street-driven machine that regularly attends car shows and cruises before lining up against some of the quickest cars in the country. That combination of street manners and outright performance is what makes Leon’s RX3 so special.
At PAC Performance, we've been privileged to work alongside Leon throughout the evolution of this incredible build. Seeing the car continue to break barriers while remaining true to its original purpose is something we're immensely proud of. It's a perfect example of what's possible when exceptional engineering, quality components and a passionate owner come together with a single goal in mind.
Leon's RX3 isn't just another fast rotary, it's a benchmark for street-driven performance and a car that has secured its place among the greatest rotary builds in the world.
