Weekend Test & Tune meets are always a great opportunity to get some solid track time and with the clock winding down to the Sydney Jamboree next month the team took full advantage of last weeks meeting.
This meeting we had three cars out testing, Andrew 'The Dentist' Maratos in his 13B RX3, James Cannavo with the TRYNC Skyline and the big girl, the Mazda6 SP even made an appearance.
The Dentist has been Mr Consistent the past few meetings, running back-to-back low 7's and extending his lead on the rest of the countries 13B competition. Still chasing that elusive six-second ET, Andrew and his crew were keen to have another crack at their goal, pumping themselves up at every given opportunity as you can see Andrew doing in the photo below.
After a skatey first pass in the 30+ degree afternoon heat the decision was made to hold off until things cooled down before making another attempt and it certainly paid off with Andrew putting down a 7.06@192 pb on the cars first full pass of the afternoon and then proceeded to back it up with an even faster 7.09@193...
Wanting to give it one more crack before calling it a night, Andrew and his crew headed out one last time and they were rewarded with yet another pb 7.04@193.
Although it wasn't the magical six-second pass they were after, it's one more small step in the right direction and another great achievement for the team!
Another car that has been impressing the crowds recently is the TRYNC Skyline, piloted by owner James Cannavo. having dipped into the 8s a few times now in his street-driven R33 James was confident in continuing that this meet.
Although ambient and track temps were high James didn't want to waste any time, heading out early for his first pass which resulted in an impressive 8.94@158
Happy with his first pass in the heat, James lined up for another hoping the cooler temps would bring a quicker ET. Launching hard out of the hole for a 1.47 60-foot the Skyline shot down the track for an 8.97@157, backing off over the line... After looking over the data from the passes it looks like the cars ignition system could be letting it down and so an upgrade is now in order allow James to push things further.
Looking to trial out a few small changes to the car, the team took the big girl Mazda6 SP out for a few laps. As always, George the burnout king was in good spirits counting down the seconds before he could plant that size 16 shoe on the floor and bang through the gears of the Liberty gearbox.
The first pass was a bit skatey, the car getting out of the groove mid track and resulting in an aborted run.
After waiting a bit until the temps cooled down the team brought the Mazda6 SP out again for a second blast which resulted in a lazy 6.58@202. On the cars third pass of the night George got out of the hole nicely but unfortunately the car slipped out of gear mid track and the car rolled through the traps.
With a little over five weeks to go until the Sydney Jamboree the team will be stepping things up to put on a big show at the event, with the Mazda6 SP and several customer cars attending the event and looking forward to some exciting racing.
March 15th people, mark it in your diaries 'cos the Sydney Jamboree is an event NOT to be missed!!!
