MELBOURNE JAMBOREE 2016 RECAP

Jamboree returned to Melbourne last weekend for its second event since the Calder Park was track resurfaced last year. With bad weather forecast for the day spectator numbers were down, but for the die hard Jamboree fans who came along, they were treated to another spectacular Jamboree event which showcased some of Australia's fastest Sports Compacts.

With our Mazda 6 SP still over in the states, Rodney stepped up to represent our team in his Pro Compact RX3 Sedan along with 5 of our customers, Kevin Awad in his Street 289 20B RX8, Andrew Zada in his J275 20B RX3 Sedan, Jimmy Cannavo with his Modified Compact RB powered R33 Skyline and Jay & Simon Sadek both in their Modified Compact RX3's.

The Sadek team debuted a new car to their fleet 'SADEK3' at the Jamboree with Simon Sadek steering the little red RX3 coupe on the day to a best of 9.5 @145, racing in the hotly contested Modified Compact class.

Also representing the Sadek team was Jay Sadek racing in his 'Sadek1' RX3 Sedan. Jay had a good showing making it through to the second round of eliminations in Modified Compact. Dialling in with a 9.15, Jay ran a 9.21 @144 in his heat against, Christopher Tolomeo in the Ford XR6 Turbo ute which ran a 9.622 on a 9.60 dial-in. A very close race indeed, better luck next time Jay.

Returning to racing after a 2 year hiatus and looking to push his R33 Skyline deeper into the 8's, Jimmy Cannavo strapped himself in to his RB powered beast to compete in the Modified Compact class.
In qualifying, Jimmy pb'd first running a 8.77, then backing it up with an even better 8.67 @163. With the data from his qualifying runs, Jimmy decided to set his dial-in at 8.65.
In the first round of eliminations he was up against Chris Tolomeo's Ford XR6 Turbo ute which was dialled in at 9.60, Cannavo would need to run him down to take the win but try not to break out.
Out of the hole both cars looked good with Jimmy passing the traps at 8.68 @161 to the XR6 Turbo's 9.64, even though Jimmy was closer to his dial-in he was slower off the line losing the race to Tolomeo.

Our current #PACSTREETKING, Andrew Zada also made the long trip down to Melbourne to race his 20B monster 'PAC275' in the J275 class. After getting runner up at the Queensland Jamboree earlier this year, Andrew was hoping to take out top honours at this event.
Zada won each of his rounds and even pb'd with a 8.14 @173 before finding himself in the finals against, Steve Bezzina in the V8 powered XW Falcon. Bezzina has run into the 7's previously so Zada needed the holeshot to win. Off the line both cars left together with Andrew running an impressive 8.21 @171, losing to Steve's 7.86 @176. Congratulations on the new PB and runner up trophy Andrew!

Usually racing in Street 289, Kevin Awad was moved up into Pro Compact to race against the big boys with his small tyre 20B RX8. One match up that Kevin was most looking forward to was against long time rival, Simon from PROMAZ who also races an RX8.
The two lined up in qualifying and the stage was set for an epic grudge match. Simon launched hard from the line racing down the quarter mile to an 8.18 @171 with Awadsn, struggling to get traction, running a slower 9.6 @131.
Kevin managed a best of 7.92 @172 in qualifying but was knocked out in the first round of eliminations ending his day early.

After 6 years out of the car since his unfortunate accident, Rodney was back in his 13B powered RX3 Sedan ready to race in his first full event.
Rodney qualified for Pro Compact in first place with a pass of 7.36 @186 and then went on to win all of his heats in the elimination rounds going through to the final against the Mazworx Datsun. In the finals the win went to Mazworx as Rodney's RX3 stepped out off the line and he was forced to back off. An incredible achievement for his first event since returning to racing.

We would to thank Ray, Colin and the whole Jamboree crew for putting such and awesome event and we can't wait for the next Jamboree in Sydney next year.
We would also like to thank all of the PACsters who came along to support us and look forward to our next event in 2 weeks, the APSA Grand final at Sydney Dragway on the 26th of November. Hope to see you there!!
