PAC TEAM overcomes the odds to win at Sydney Jamboree 2011

Perfect weather, good crowd and a strong field set the stage for the Sydney Jamboree on Sunday 3rd April .

The PAC team was well represented with a number of cars competing in no less than 6 classes! Jim Maglievaras, Jimmy Jafar, and Sam Sadek in Pro Compact, Damien McKern and John and Russell Archer in Pro 289, Lincoln Dal Cortivo, Tony Ilov, Kirk Grundy in Street 289, Danny Petrevski, Ibby Aouad and Simon Hay in Modified Compact and Luke Phillips in All Motor.

The PAC flagship – triple rotor, world record holder Mazda 6 with George Rehayem behind the wheel was performing well, qualifying with solid 6.63@207 pass. Disaster struck in the second qualifying round with a broken fuel line causing a fire in the engine bay. In display of true grit and determination, the PAC pit crew pulled together and repaired the car in time for the 3rd qualifier, only to tyre shake.

In racing, George managed to back-up his earlier pass with a solid 6.729 and with the Mazda 6, the Ray Glass Celica and Gas Motorsport’s Celica all on the same points by the last round, this was the time that had to be beaten in order to claim the Pro Turbo class win (Chicago Shootout rules). On the last run, Rod Harvey in his Ray Glass 2JZ managed a 6.730, beating Joe Signorelli, but it was not fast enough, handing the win over the PAC Performance with a margin of just 1/1000th of a second.

There were other spectacular performances from the PAC Team with six customers managing to set new PBs; Jim Magliveras - 7.52, Simon Hay - 8.374, Luke Phillips - 11.31, Tony Ilov 9.6, Kirk Grundy (new member to PAC racing team) 10.1@138 and Ibby Aouad 10.5. A great showing from the PAC stables.

In Pro Compact it was an all PAC final once again, with Jimmy Jafar racing against team mate Jim Maglieveras in his 13B corolla, the win going to Jimmy in his FIRDUP RX3. Damien Mckern made it to the finals in his PRO 289, RX2, only to lose with a hole shot. Kirk Grundy raced his little 1200 Mazda ute, also having to settle for runner up in ST 289. A big congratulations going to all teams for a great effort with a total of 5 PAC cars in the finals.

The team now have just over a month off before preparing for the next RARS round at the Nitro Champs in Sydney, where they will do it all again.

PAC Performance would like thank all its sponsors Turbo by Garrett, Turbosmart, Mazda Australia, Haltech, Castrol EDGE and Custom Bodyworks for all their help and support and especially to all the fans who have given them endless support, it is much appreciated.
