PETER INGRAM DOMINATES ROUND 1 AT SYMMONS PLAINS

Looking to contest the National Series this season, the Ingram Brothers Racing team made the long trek south and across the Tasman to Symmons Plains raceway, Tasmania for Round 1 of the Precision nationals Sports Sedan Series.

Campaigning both Peter's RX7 and Matthew's RX8, the team were super-excited to be able to put tyres to tarmac on the challenging & tight track which welcomed the return of National Sports Sedans last weekend after a three-decade absence.

Throughout qualifying, Peter set the pace for most of the session in his carbon FD and looked poised to take the lead spot with a very solid 0:51.3808 lap, however, a last lap effort by Victorian Steve Tamasi in the V8 Calibra snatched pole position for Race 1. Matthew battled it out with the mid-field, slotting in at 10th position which meant he would need to pull out some of his trick maneuvers once again to advance through the field on this short and tight track!

Kicking things off with Race 1 on Saturday afternoon, Peter made his move early to take the lead over Steve and managed to stay ahead of the field throughout the race to take the win with a 17:13.9875, despite late pressure from Steve in the Calibra, while brother Matthew in the RX8 muscled his way up a few spots to 7th position with a respectable 17:19.4014.

Race 2 started off with a shocker, with a big bingle on the first corner of the opening lap which thankfully the boys were able to avoid getting caught up in. Peter once again steamed forward in the number one spot which he carried through the entire race which ended under the safety car due to another incident late in the Race. Matthew held 7th position in Race 2 with some clean laps, under heavy pressure at every corner!

Heading into the business end of the round, the boys were eager to hit the track for Race 3 and were determined to give it their all! Peter once again dominated the field with quick & consistent laps which saw the carbon FD take the chequered flag for the race and the round, and Matthew also managed to jump up a spot with some great driving, slotting himself into 6th position for the race and finishing 5th on points for the series.

Overall, both drivers had an absolute ball, falling in love with the track and hospitality. The team will now prepare for Round 2, to be held at the World Class Tailem Bend circuit in Adelaide which is sure to be an exciting one! Will Peter go back-to-back in the RX7 & can we see Matthew join his brother on the podium? Rest assured, these boys will give it their all to make it happen!

Until then, here's a quick clip from the weekend with some cool in-car footage and audio of those tough-as-nails 3 rotors.
