RND 7 ATURA TRACK CHAMPIONSHIP - SYDNEY DRAGWAY 14/9/14

In its first appearance at Sydney Dragway since the makeover, the Mazda6 SP showed off its new look for the home crowd last weekend for round seven of the Atura Track Championships.

Joined by customers Mark Brenner, Elia Hajjar and Grant Henderson who made the trip up from the ACT with his ST289 RX3, there was plenty of action on the track in Super Compact.

When it wasn't looking hot in the pits sitting idle the 20B Mazda6 SP was getting angry on the track, unfortunately that didn't help the cause though with the car suffering some bad tyre shake throughout the day as well as getting out of the grove off the line a few times...

George did manage to get two full pass in on the day though, a 6.50@217 shakedown followed by a flying 6.42@221. As you will see in the video clip below, the 121mph pass was not without its own drama though, with a chute issue in the deep end seeing the car come very close to getting out of shape under brakes and at 220+mph it was a heart-stopping moment for us all.

Coming back from a short break from racing due to work commitments, Grant Henderson and his crew put on the show of the event, their small tyre 13B RX3 coupe running harder than ever!

The car was on a mission, running sevens the entire day including a flying 7.698@174 PB. Grant then went on to take out the event win for the Super Compact class, beating the super consistent, Super Stock racer Clint George who is usually untouchable in the final!!

After a some-what lack-luster Friday at the private test meet, Mark Brenner was out again in his RX3.

Once again Mark was faced with a fight to get the car off the line cleanly but he did manage a lazy 7.6@177 later in the day. Not a new PB but certainly nothing to complain about!

Also looking to improve on his Friday efforts, Elia Hajjar hit the track running on Sunday in his RX3 coupe...

After a solid burnout to warm the 10.5Ws up, Elia blasted out an impressive 7.31@188 PB off the trailer!! Unfortunatly for Elia the remainder of his day was not as exciting with gearbox dramas seeing a premature end to his day.

With things about to ramp up with the return of the Full Throttle Friday meets, be sure to keep an eye out for these and many more customer cars that will be out working hard and putting on a show as they push for new PBs...
