SYDNEY JAMBOREE 2012

After a horrible few months of torrential rains and unpredictable weather, everyone was anxious leading up to the Sydney Jamboree at Sydney Dragway. The team was led by George in the MX6, and the troops were Lee Docherty in his little purple MX5, Jimmy's 13B corolla, Chris's yellow SIK100, Dom Perri, with his silver RX2, the Hay brothers in their datto, HYPDUP and their purple RX3, RUNYAH. Damien Mckern competed in PRO 289, in GRUMP2, whilst the father and son team of the Archers competed in ST 289. Jim Tosca was there in his blue RX3, coupe, and Luke in STUTTA also made the trip up from the ACT to compete in ALL motor. New team member, Adrian Santoro made his race debut with his PAC turbocharged Ford, XW.

With over 160 cars entered for the one day event, it was going to be a jam packed day of racing and the competition was going to be tough. Lee ran a 7.69 in his 3rd qualifier in Pro Compact, and then ran a PB of 7.66@172 mph in round 1 of racing. He then advanced to the finals and came up against Jimmy’s corolla, who’s fastest of the day was a 7.57, in an all PAC final. The corolla took home the trophy in Pro Compact, in a nail biting final. Congratulations to Jimmy and the boys.

Simon's little Datsun was running consistent all day, reeling off easy 8.0's. He advanced to the finals in modified compact, only to lose on a break out with a PB of 7.991on an 8.0 dial in. The boys were still ecstatic with their little pocket rocket breaking into the 7's. Chris Fakinos also ran a PB in SIK100 clocking a 7.72 across the traps, which was the fastest PRO289 time of the day.

The Archers top qualified in ST 289 but unfortunately lost in a breakout in round 1, their best time of the day was 9.874@133mph. Damien took on the top half of the field in PRO 289 and also top qualified, his fastest of the day clocking 7.822@180.5mph. Grump bowed out in round1 of the Chicago shootout, due to a nail puncture in his front tyre, bad luck boys! Luke Philps in STUTTA ran an 11.3@118MPH in All Motor with a round 1 loss. Adrian Santoro in his PAC turbocharged, Ford, XW made his race debut with a 9.50@143mph. Another race debut was Dom Perri in his immaculate RX2, who was also competing in ST289, he did a great job steering with his best run of the day a 10.2@138mph

The Sydney Jamboree was the first of four rounds for the new headlining class, Factory Xtreme. With the competition heating up at the top level the team knew they had to give it all they had in the MX6. But the old girl didn't like the extra power and proved to be a handful for George. Qualifier 1 saw the MX6 run a 7.02@182mph, tyre shaking half way down the track. Second run was a wild ride when the MX6 took off, shook and turned, throwing George around in the car. With the car not liking the extra power, Rocky had no choice but to take some power out just to make it drivable and get the car down the track, the car managed a 6.91@183mph. The team knew with these times that it would not cut it against the rest of the field, but George still managed to put on a show with his usual half track burnouts for the crowd.

Overall it was a great weekend of racing and a big congratulations to all the boys that flew the PAC flag high and proud, we had some great results. Thank you to all our supporters and sponsors that helped to make this event a great success. Thanks also to Ray Box and the crew for putting on a great event and to all the Sydney Dragway staff that always do a great job in keeping the racers safe and for running a hassle free event.
