Five days of grueling conditions around Tasmania had some bittersweet results for Mazda Motorsport Australia. Their signature car, the RX8, had been running 2
nd outright in the rally until an unfortunate incident put the RX8 out of the race.
The car was traveling along the Mount Roland stage of the Rally when the team collided with another competitor who had stopped in the race line of the RX8. This team had stopped to help someone that had come off the road during the race. Thankfully all involved were not seriously injured but this was very disappointing for the team who was on the way to a podium finish, possibly even a win in Targa 2010.
However the team’s second car the MPS 3, which was also having a great run, finished 2
nd in the showroom class and placed 9
th overall in a 270 car field. This was a great result for the Mazda team whom this year had Rocky Rehayem on board as an integral part of the team. For more results and information checkout
